Artist Statement

I create visual love letters between past and present by rescuing discarded photos & creating new lives for these found figures in my mixed media art. These works live to celebrate the small moments that seem to pass with little weight yet stick with us as fond memories forever. It serves as a playful reminder to always make time to truly be present and enjoy these special moments. These totems of our past aim to inspire growth as we move towards even more beautiful futures.

How do you interpret ‘Ready to wear’ in your work?

I collect old, forgotten and discarded photographs. Most of the time I have no background on these photos – zero information at all. Much of what can be gleaned about the people in my photos can be found through their adornment. In these oil paintings two women of the past stand before us – beauty queens dressed and dolled up – mp doubt performing for and looking for the approval of men. I hope that these works raise questions of adornment and remind us women that no matter how we choose to express ourselves and share our bodies with the world – we are inherently worthy of love and respect, and we are innately enough.
